Foreshore Master Plan

Victoria Esplanade Foreshore Master Plan

Clarence City Council

Inspiration

Having grown as a focal point for the daily life of the community, the Bellerive foreshore is a culturally rich location on the edge of the Derwent River - the shelter of Kangaroo Bay, the sandy Bellerive beaches, the large cliffs of Bellerive Bluff and vistas of water and distant landforms from the water’s edge promenade combine to create a perfect setting for community and visitor enjoyment.

Outcomes

The current draft master plan of Bellerive’s Victoria Esplanade and Queen Street emerges from an involved engagement with the community and stakeholders to define their values, daily patterns and future visions for the area. This process led to a detailed study of the site challenges, the articulation of which, drove the key design strategies to support safe and equitable access to the area, foster opportunities to pause and reflect on the setting, to excite imagination, improve the quality of the streetscape and enhance the local ecology.

Recognition

The project, though still a work in progress, has had strong support from Council staff and community representatives engaged.
