Meander Valley Natural Resource Management Strategy
The project evaluated the importance of the municipality’s natural resource values so that priorities for protection and management could be determined and a plan for action established.
The Strategy was a pioneering document, providing the basis for the community, government and industry to work together to achieve practical, co-operative and creative solutions for sustainable management of natural resources within the study area.
The Strategy focused on five main areas – creation of a strategic framework, sustaining remnant ecosystems, addressing the key threats to natural resource values, expanding education and information services and improving Council’s capacity to respond.
The Strategy helped Council receive over $2m of grant money leveraged in the immediate years following its release.
