Trails Tasmania Strategy

The State’s trail network, across a range of tenures, provides recreational, health, social, environmental and economic benefits to locals and makes our cities more liveable.

The Strategy develops a guide for state agencies, regional authorities, local councils, private land managers and community groups in the assessment, development, management and promotion of a co-ordinated and innovative recreational trail network for Tasmania.

The Strategy was ground-breaking in its whole of government approach. Proposed actions address critical issues of governance, funding, planning and development, liability and marketing and promotion.

The Strategy was awarded a Planning Institute of Australia (Tasmania) Award for Excellence in Social and Community Planning in 2009. The State Government provided over $4m funding for implementation.
