Clarence Kayak Trail

Clarence Kayak Trail

City of Clarence

Inspiration

The City of Clarence enjoys 191 kilometres of varied coastline.  Seeking to extend access to this asset, particularly the facilities available to kayakers, the City sought our assistance with the development of a ‘trail’ and launch facilities to take them beyond their usual recreation program to get residents and others safely onto the water.

Outcomes

In leading the project, Inspiring Place combined the ‘terra-centric’ tools of landscape architecture, with our own passion for experiencing life in the outdoors and on the water.

The trail builds on international case studies; consolidates knowledge from experienced kayakers; encourages an adventurous culture of risk appetite rather than risk aversion and expands Council’s network of trails

The trail is a first of its kind in Tasmania and possibly Australia, providing a model of other Australian coastal communities.

The jury for this award winning project noted,
“... the tremendous amount of thought and passion that has gone into this project... Importantly, it pushes perceptions of what landscape architecture can be and expands the role of landscape architects as initiators, advocates, authors and leaders of ground-breaking initiatives...”

Recognition

2019 Award for Excellence in Parks and Open Space, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (Tasmania).
