Inspiration

Freycinet is one of Tasmania’s most breathtaking landscapes yet nearby, in need of care, was a seriously degraded and long abandoned campground edged by a species-rich dry sclerophyll landscape.  Called on to create an inspirational landscape to compliment a six-star luxury resort, Inspiring Place provided a voice to protect the healthy portions of the site while restoring the nature of the place as a healthy ecosystem to be experienced by visitors.

Outcomes

The landscape architecture of the Saffire emerged from a seven-year engagement with the tasks of site planning, environmental management, landscape design and construction of the resort. Throughout, we sought to infuse the project with sustainability principles that seamlessly integrate the surrounding wild setting with the cultured core of the resort.  As a result, Saffire delivers an intimate, uplifting and authentic landscape experience that allows visitors to meaningfully engage and connect with the extraordinary qualities of the natural environment while at the same time being regenerative in its environmental outcome.

Recognition

2011 Medal for Landscape Architecture, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (Tasmania).
